The only real way to determine whether or not there is a pathologic bacterial infection rather than a "normal" vaginal complement of bacteria is to do a culture. If a pathologic bacteria is noted, then it should be treated appropriately. If it recurs, then an evaluation needs to be undertaken to determine the source. This would entail determining if there is a problem associated with your bowel or bladder or vagina that may be predisposing you to recurrent infections. Another possibility is an allergic reaction. Are you using tampons? Are you inserting anything else into the vagina that could be causing an irritation? These are all things to consider... Lynn
