If hte cyst is merely fluid fiulled, it can be followed, but if it is complex -- partly solid and partly cystic, it should be evaluated. YOur age is important in determining how long it is followed conservatively, without surgery. If you are young, it is more likely to be a benign condition than if you are menopausal

I suggest you get a second opinion. Your surgery may also be able to be done through the laparoscope, rahter than through a big incision, which markeldy decreases pain and recovery time
