Re: D&C?From: Kristy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 10 Nov 2000 10:45:46 -0800 (PST)
MH, D&C stands for Dilitation and Curettage. I had one of these done for diagnostic purposes last Summer b/c my dr wanted to rule out other things that might have caused my irregular bleeding. In my case they did the procedure while I was under general anesthesia. What my dr did was to insert series of rods in to my uterus in order to dilate it. After it is dilated then the curette (the instrument other part of the procedure) is inserted into the uterus thru the vagina and then they scrape the lining. When this procedure is done for diagnostic purposes as it was in my case the dr did a hysteroscopy to check for some other problems. I hope that this is of some help to you, but if you have more questions please also refer back to the archives of this forum. If you need to ask more questions as far as personal experience please feel free to e-mail me off the list. Take care and please write back any time. Kristy :)
