More progesterone questionsFrom: AMS (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 7 Nov 2000 09:00:10 -0600 (CST)
In reading over old posts, I saw an answer from MD that suggest the function of progesterone is to thicken the uterine lining and could result in heavy menstrual bleeding. Trying to get a handle on heavy prolonged perimenopausal bleeding, I had 14 days of levlen, nothing for what were arbitrarily called days 1-9 of cycle then MDA for days 10 thru 26. I was supposed to start a period upon MDA withdrawal, did not. Had regular yearly appt. 8 days following MDA withdrawal and gyn found clear cervical mucous suggesting ovulation (supported by my usual little annoying ovarian pain). I am taking nothing, now and it is 14 days since MDA withdrawal. I assume, since I apparantly ovulated, and my breasts are sore that I am producing more progesterone on my own. Does this mean I am going to have a whopper of period with more heavy bleeding? I have too much to do the week before Thanksgiving to be sitting home with my "diapers"! I am 49 years old, tubes are tied, uterus enlarged with "top hard" no identifiable fibroids. Thanks for any info.
