Chronic Pelvic PainFrom: Susan (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 1 Nov 2000 08:44:18 -0600 (CST)
I am 36, the mother of 13 month old twins that are the result of gonadotropin therapy (delivered via c-section). I have battled chronic pelvic pain and ovarian cysts for the last 8 years. During a lap in 1993 my OB/GYN removed adhesions, the remnants of an ovarian cyst (after 4 months of non-stop BCPs), and one small spot of endo. A second lap in 1998 (by my RE) revealed only minimal adhesions, but was told I had varicose veins in the pelvic cavity (she told me they were more than 50% larger than normal). I am now in pain every single day. From ovulation through the end of my period, the pain is what I would call excruciating. I have tried Motrin and Celebrex, to no avail. My OB/GYN now has me on Tri-Cyclen and he wants me to stay on it continuously in order to keep my ovaries quiet. So far I have not seen any improvement. (A transvaginal ultrasound done a few months ago revealed no cysts or abnormalities on my ovaries and uterus.) What would you suggest as my next course of treatment? Are there options other than BCPs to treat my pain? My OB and I both hope to avoid another surgery, as I know that it will only encourage more adhesions. I would appreciate any insight you can offer.
