Considering Paravaginal Prolapse Repair..some questions??

Hello! I am basically new to this board, but I have been reading recent posts and see that there has been reading posts from JJ...sounds like she has a similar problem. However, I am overweight (too embarrassed to say how much over I am!). Anyway, I started a diet yesterday, and I am very serious...(we had a party at work today and I didn't eat one thing there.) I just had my weight watcher dinner and drank my slimfast for breakfast and supper. I would like to lose about 20 lbs by Christmas..then the rest after Christmas. I even started my exercise program tonight. I am going to start logging my progress on an exercise log sheet. Now, onto my question. If I lose the weight, do I have a better chance of maintaining the success of the repair?? The prolapse is pretty severe and is causing me a lot of problems. Bowel difficulties, both constipation and incontinence.I have had a GI work up (normal) and the surgeon suggested having the repair done. I feel wet all the time and wear pads constantly because of the urine leakage. I have a constant "falling out" feeling. I am going to go the non-surgical route for now and be fitted for a pessary, but I hate the thoughts of having a pessary in all the time. To be truthful, I am scared! I have heard that the surgery itself is painful and I dread having the pain. Plus, what is the normal recovery time...I don't want to take a lot of time off of work. The gynecologist who found the problem told me that my weight had nothing to do with the prolapse, he said that because of the severity of it, it has been happening for awhile...Can I have some thoughts on this? I thank you in advance for your time.
