I just tried this a couple of months ago (with my doctor's blessings). It works for some women, and not for others. For me, I bled the entire month + (30 days), heavy, and haven't stopped spotting since. I suppose it might settle down with time, but I sure wouldn't recommend trying it just before you have something important coming up, like a vacation or honeymoon, or a big project at work. Do check with your doctor first - he/she might want you to arrange it so you have a period every few months, as mine suggested. I'm not sure how you'd tell if you got pregnant, either.

If your insurance pays for your pills, you may find they will only pay for one pack every so many days, and you'll have to pay full price for every 3rd or 4th pack. Apparently they don't recognize any theraputic uses of BCPs - just for birth control.

Personally, I've had it with long, heavy periods, cramps, flooding, being stuck "near a bathroom", getting up through the night, etc., and am having an endometrial ablation on Thursday. You might want to look into that option if you're having similar problems.

Good luck!
