2 answers, please :) MULTIPLE responses would be greatly appreciated!From: Emme (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 24 Oct 2000 18:33:27 -0500 (CDT)
Hi doctors- I am known to be long-winded so I will try to make this short and sweet. 1) My ob/gyn told me a culture had shown gardnerella. I took four pills of flagyl Sunday night, and inserted an applicator of metrogel last night. This morning I was feeling fine, but just now when I went to the restroom there was a burning sensation that felt to be in the inner vaginal area (not like a UTI- I've had those!) after urinating. It dissipates over time (1/2 hour). How long does it take for the medicine to be effective? I have four more doses of metrogel left to take. 2) Having been off the Pill for two months, my mood and outlook are much better and I am feeling brave enough to try one again. I am still having on and off burning in the vaginal area (first it was attributed to yeast, then strep b, and now to gardnerella) and I haven't been on the Pill so I can't blame it on that. Even though I use condoms and spermicides, I would still feel more protected with this kind of contraception if it can work for me. Those few fleeting (infrequent!)seconds when my boyfriend is inside of me before he puts on a condom, even when I have spermicide in during foreplay, make me nervous and then I am paranoid all month. I believe in the potency of precum, while he does not. To get to the point, what would be the most scientific/methodical way to go about finding a good pill? Dr. Wang has mentioned that one with lower estrogen, such as Mircette or Alesse might be a good choice. I was on Triphasil before (same family as Allesse), and my problems with that were: cystitis-like symptoms EVERY month, bloating the week before my period, headaches, and at the end slight depression. Dr. McIntosh suggested trying a low-dose with norgestimate. Should I try Alesse, and then if I still have problems try Mircette (which has a different progestin)? Some people say they have no problems with Mircette, while other list acute anxiety, extreme moodiness and depression, and spotting when on these pills.... Your advice would be greatly appreciated. I realize different pills "react differently" with different people, which is why I am reluctant to try around (I don't like doing something where I don't know what the outcome will be), but I was hoping that maybe your experiences with women with symptoms similar to mine could help. I guess the 2nd question wasn't that short. I'm sorry! THANK YOU!
