Hi, I've looked around for a similar forum re. general surgery but couldn't find one, so I'm trying here (and btw, you are wonderful!): My mom (55) just had serious surgery for her thyroid - and because it was growing down and inwards, they had to open her chest. My questions: What is the name for that procedure? (so I can look it up) If you have had any comparable stuff done (gigantic scar from the neck to the belly-button), what would you recommend in terms of wound/scar care? She still has trouble speaking after almost 2 weeks, battled a beginning pneumonia, is very weak, and will be released home tomorrow (!!!???). Thank you so much - I'm just worried since I am a continent away :-(
