Dr. Montgomery-

Thanks for your response. I was just perturbed about how my partner could be giving it to me, since we were both virgins when we first had sex and this didn't really give either one of us the chance to pick up an STD! I was relieved to hear that it normally exists in the vagina. What would cause it to flare up? In the last culture gardnerella was not mentioned, but group b showed up, which is also supposed to be normal inhabitant of that area. Am I treating for something that is supposed to be there anyway?

My symptoms are that I have pain after urinating sometimes (and my urine volume is normal so it's not a UTI- I have had urine cultures done on several occasions), but no yeast shows up on the culture. I thought I might have developed yeast on Monday (after finishing up a penicillin prescription on Friday) so I am on day 2 of a 3 day terazol treatment- any ideas on what could be causing my problems? I think my gyn is treating these "normal vaginal inhabitants" because she doesn't know what else might be causing the problem.

Regarding the treatment, my pharmacist told me that no alcohol should be in your system 24 hours before and 3 days after you take the flagyl. Since my system tends to be pretty sensitive, I guess I have to go with the safest bet.

I am going to an event on Friday night where I will be having wine, so do you think it is okay to wait until Sunday to take the Flagyl? The cultures were taken on Friday so I waited until today to get the diagnosis anyway. Would using metrogel in the meantime help a little?
