mammogram - when is the best time?

Hi,

today my doctor gave me (32, no kids) a referral for a mammogram with potential ultrasound follow-up for recurring pain (cyst?) in one area of my left breast. The pain is period-related, starting about a week before my period (on top of the usual swelling, very localized, and really irritating), and goes away on day 2. My breasts do turn "lumpy" at that time anyway, so there's plenty of stuff to be felt, but nothing specific. The problem: As I understand it, if I go when the pain is there, the mammogram will be useless due to high tissue density. If I go after my period, there is no pain, so there will be nothing on the picture. What would be the best way to proceed?
