If I knew the answer to that question, I would be so rich that I wouldn't be practicing medicine any more. It is more common in diabetics, pregnant women, women on birth control pills, women who douche, women who are in the last 2 weeks of their cycle. The yeast are normally in the vagina in a small number. When something changes conditions in the vagina(more sugar from sugar in the urine of diabetics) then the yeast grows more rapidly and takes over and causes problems.
