Colposuspension...rectocele and cystocele, which procedure is best?

I am due to have my prolapsed bladder and posteria vagainal wall repaired on November 6th 2000. My consultant is going to do the bladder repair abdominally and the recto repair through the vagina. I don't know the names of the procedures he is going to use, but he says he does about 40 a year, so I guess he is not a novice. Are these procedures the best ones for my problems as someone told me both can be done abdominally? I am not so sure. How would I know if my symptoms were bad enough to go ahead with surgery? I can see a bulge at the front of my vaginal entrance which I assume is the dropped bladder, this causes frequent cystitis type symptoms after sex, when I think the bladder gets inflamed (obviously puts me off sex, which doesn't go down well with my hubby) and the rectocele has started causing bowel movement problems, where I have to 'splint' to finish emptying the bowel...not very nice and it upsets me to be like this. I have tried Kegels and no real improvement. Should I have this surgery and are the procedures the right ones? I think the abdominal is going to be a larapotomy (big inscision)

Thanks
