uterine prolapse..more ?'s...From: Cindy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 29 Sep 2000 17:04:26 -0400
Here is my original post and the answer that Dr. Montgomery kindly gave to me:
Can a mild uterine prolapse turn into a more severe form? If nothing is done will the uterus continue to drop?
>
-- Cindy, Your 5 pregnancies and 4 little ones caused some problems with the ligaments that support the uterus and cervix. As a woman ages, the tissues that support the womb gradually loose more of their integrity, so pelvic relaxation tends to be incidiously progressive. Occasionally, there can be a sudden dramatic change, but this is not as common as the gradual progression. There is no real urgency with regard to the issue unless you begin to get significant urologic problems or the prolapse progresses out of the vaginal introitus and you get irritative symptoms of the cervix. The cervix does change positions with your position so it is important for a physician evaluating this problem to evaluate the relaxation with bearing down and even while standing to assess the degree of uterine decent. I think that you can await your schedule appointment unless something changes dramatically between now and then... Lynn
