IC, UTI, and BVFrom: beth (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 29 Sep 2000 07:56:07 -0500 (CDT)
I have read lots of threads but still haven't found the answer for my problem so please help. I have had UTI symptoms (urgency, frequency, lower abdominal pain, abdominal tenderness, painful urination..staying on the toilet offers some relief) but the urine sample came back completely normal. The urination burning felt to be inside rather than outside. Phenazopene pills definitely work. Best description isn't pain exactly but extreme discomfort - no itching. Doctor found a vaginal infection with a lot of white discharge. Gon. and Chlam. ruled out, but no definite identification made. "Doctor" was a student who didn't think it was PID but said the prescribed antibiotics covered that anyway. Took oral antibiotics but symptoms have flared on and off since then - esp around period time. age 24, have taken BCP for several years. do not douche. Can BV cause the UTI symptoms or are the two not related? I read that the symptoms without infection suggest IC, but there was/is an infection. A doctor's visit is out of the question since I am overseas and it would cost a LOT. Could a 7 day round of doxycycline help any?
