I called UCSF and asked for a ped gyn. They left me on hold, called me back after a few hours and I finally landed with a great lady, Dr. AJ. I never actually asked if she was a ped gyn. I hope she's the one they had <G>.

Here's the history:

3 years of my 4.5 year olds pediatrican diagnosing yeast infections. Nystantin or Lotrimin have been continually given. Her ped finally gave her oral Diflucan and said if that didn't work go to a gyn. When I asked her about a ped gyn, she told me there was no such thing.

I called UCSF and my daughter has had an appointment with Dr. AJ. She said it was probably an allergy. She took cultures but didn't send them in to grow. She put her on 4 weeks (1st two weeks at twice per day, 2nd two weeks at once per day) of Clobetasol Propianate Cream. She had a major outbreak in the middle of this course of treatment. Her labia is discolored from all the irritation.

When the treatment ended, I decided to see what would happen. She could be clear on the weekend and by Tuesday, red and raw. She could be clear again on Thursday etc... Slowly, the redness and irritation escalated to the point of her screaming at urination (last week). Trip to the ER (you know this doesn't ever happen during office hours) and another steroid cream for what was deemed contact vaginitis. It looked better within a few days. Then again this week another trip. This time I was given Xylocaine Gel to put on her when she's screaming in pain, dx: peri vaginal rash.

What could be causing this. The obvious has been eliminated. Detergents, soaps in the tub, wiping all the basics. I use unscented tissue paper.

I have another appointment with her pediatrician (I don't know why I'm bothering there except she is a good ped) and an appointment in SF next week with AJ.

I'll try anything, does she have to ingest or come in contact (in that area) with whatever is causing this if, in fact, it is an allergic reaction? Any ideas???

Please share your knowledge.

Desperate mom.
