Abnormal pap / HPV results.... and vulvodynia ...could a doctor please replyFrom: Confused (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 17 Sep 2000 23:17:29 -0500 (CDT)
Hello About 2 yrs ago I started having vaginal pain on contact. At first I did not make much of it... but after a few months I went to a Dr. My pap came back 'abnormal' I then had a colposcopy and punch biopsy. Wheh the GYN was looking thru the colposcope, she sai she saw some 'white areas' and took samples. She was convinced I had HPV. A few days later she called me and told me that the results of the punch biopsy did show some abnormality and she was still waiting for the HPV results to find out what strain I had. The HPV results came back negative ( no HPV). She said that it was probably a false result. But then my pap came back normal as well. Thru this all I still had no relief from my original complaint - painful sex. The dr. then sent me a letter saying that since the pap results and HPV results showed no problem, I should come in again for an exam. The next pap came back normal again. I went to a different Dr. and she did a Qtip test and told me I have vestibular adenitis. I understand that this is a form of vulvodynia. Here are my questions... 1. Is it possible that I have HPV? How can I make sure I do not? 2. What test should be done to determine the cause of my vestibluar adenitis ? The Qtip test just confirmed that I have pain [ I already knew that...]. 3. I usually have pain only during sex. However, after my exam/qtip test.. ifelt continuous pain for severa days. Why is that? I really appreciate your taking the time to answer my questions. It is really kind of the doctors on this board to donate time. Thank you so much.
