The pill & Migraines without the headache

I am a 42 year old woman who was on OrthTricyclen for many years with no complaints. Last year I started seeing a ring of dancing shimmering lights around the periphery of my vision for 10 minute periods. An MRI, Echo, & neck vein check showed nothing and since I also went off the pill in case it was a stroke related problem the symptoms stopped 3 weeks after pill discontinuation. I went back on the pill and 9 months later the visions resumed. An Opthmologist pronounced the visions to be "migraine without the headache" and once again they stopped within 3 weeks of quitting the pill.

Planned Parenthood has suggested I might try Micronor but I am uncomfortable with what I have read about the side effects (particulary hairloss, acne or hirsutism) and the long period of time for BC effect to kick in. According to Medscape a Progesterone only pill is also contraindicated in case of migraine.

I have had an IUD and will probably go that route if there is no other pill alternative but I am definitely not looking forward to the IUD insertion experience or the heavier periods and cramping. Is it possible that other lower dosed pills are worth trying and since my migraines without the headcahes don't hurt should I just risk seeing dancing lights since ther duration is brief and does not seem to interfere too much, except for reading text on a computer monitor.

Thanks,
