Hi there,

Not GYN, but hoping someone might know something about this. It ties in with my previous messages and replies about my RLQ lymph node swelling, fevers, weight loss of 20 lbs over a few weeks, severe diarrhea etc. Dr Marchbein and some others replied...would like to hear from them if possible and any others who might have some advice for me.

Recently had my second opinion appt with the hematologist/oncologist at another hospital, who agreed with the recommendation to have a gallium scan (had two CT scans since Jan, both showing prominent RLQ LN's) Also was sent to rheumatologist re. my positive ANA to rule out lupus, which he didnt think I had and I didnt either. So had the gallium scan and stopped by my hem/onc's office today to get results. He said that the radiologist was very suprised at them, and that in all his years of practice (he MUST be in his 70s) he has never seen anything like this before.

Apparently my RLQ did not show up, but the scan came back abnormal due to something in my mid-to-upper spinal area, and in the buttock area. He asked if I have any pain in either place, which I don't. He doesnt know what to do about it and has no idea what it is. He suggested an MRI which I'm not thrilled with because I have trouble lying flat for so long, but I guess if I have to I have to. He's going to talk to the testing radiologist and ask him some more detailed information I guess, and is also waiting for the typed report. We'll talk again Tuesday and he'll try to figure something out over the weekend. I'd like to get any and all information I could to share with him in the meantime.

I am very concerned about this and _really_ need some advice here. I know no one can diagnose anything online - all I'm looking for are some "this is what you might want to look for's" or "it could be due to this" etc.

I have some specific questions here, hopefully some here can answer for me:

1) I don't know much about gallium scan results....what sorts of problems could they indicate? Are we talking about an abnormal growth here, infection, something in my blood vessels, or...?

2) In those two areas I specified, what are some of the organs/systems etc that could be having a problem that would show up on the scan? Lymph nodes (not buttocks I know, but near the spinal area?) Cysts? Other?

3) What's the best course of diagnostic action to take? Couldn't a CT scan or ultrasound show if there is a problem there?

I have all my blood test results, as I had to bring them with me for my 2nd opinion. I have the abnormal ones with levels, so if anyone would like to read them, let me know and I'll send them.
