atypical squamous cell findings on recent pap

I've just recently had a pap smear and atypical squamous cells of an undetermined source were found. I was doing some research on the internet, and would like to know the most common causes of this. My doctor said this is usually due to inflammation or a reparative process. Could these findings be due to a previous abortion? Please let me know what reparative processes this might occur from. Thank you, Jennifer B.
