What happened MJ? I am sorry that you are having a problem.

Sometimes it is easier to communicate with a physician over a computer because we aren't looking at them directly. It can be easier over a computer as opposed to the telephone because we don't have to interact verbally. What about writing a letter to your Dr. voicing your concerns and problems and mailing it to him/her? Or, if they make their email address accessable to patients, maybe you can try that. Not everything can be solved over the computer, but this would be a step to help get you to feel more comfortable with your Dr.

Not going to a Dr. anymore is not a good idea either. Have you considered talking with a counselor about why you can't communicate with your Drs.? I'm not saying anything has happened to you in the past with Drs., but in my particular situation, when I was nine, I was rather sick. My Pediatrician knew something was wrong (high WBC, temp, abdominal pain...all pointed to Appendicitis). He sent me to a surgeon, and the surgeon handed my mother an Rx for Tylenol #2 and said, "Here, this will make her feel better." The Surgeon didn't believe me. Well, within two days, I was in the OR having my appendix removed by this surgeon's partner, and finding out if we had waited much longer, it would have ruptured. I was in the hospital for THREE WEEKS! My surgeon left for two weeks on vacation, so I had to deal with this less than caring surgeon. I was running a very high fever, but again, nothing was wrong! To make a long story short, I had peritonitis. This surgeon opened my wound, in my hospital room without any type of anesthesia, pain medicine, etc.!!!!!!

What happened to me as a result of this Dr.? Well, for one, I could have died had my mother and father not said that they were pulling me out of that hospital and taking me to Children's Hospital in Philadelphia if something wasn't done immediately. Secondly, I found it very hard to trust Drs. and I have an extreme fear of surgery (more so than normal). I have worked through this, but it took time. Working out my fears with a professional helped me gain trust in the medical profession, as well as made my life a lot easier!!!!
