Here's a quick clarification about endometriosis and bleeding. Endo can cause "abnormal" bleeding when, for example, it is present in the rectum (rectal bleeding), on the cervix (spotting with intercourse), in the lungs (bleeding into the lungs, or even collapsed lungs), or even in the joints (hemarthroses). However, I cannot find anything in the medical literature or in any of my textbooks to support that menorrhagia or menometrorrhagia (heavy or irregularly heavy uterine bleeding) are caused by endo. None of my faculty from my residency ever discussed heavy or irregular bleeding as a cause of endometriosis, nor have I experienced this in the 10 years I have been doing this. Thanks,
