Changing opinions about milk?

After seeing all the flack around PETA's "Got Prostate Cancer" billboard, I got curious what the gripe is about milk. I've come across quite a bit of information suggesting that milk (and milk products) are not particularly good for you. Several articles indicate that the protein in milk actually contributes to osteoporosis more than the calcium protects from it.

On one hand, there is something intuitively obvious about the idea that humans probably have no real "need" for milk intended for baby cows. However, it's hard to overlook years of programming and general medical opinion to the contrary.

Is the notion that milk may not be particularly healthy for people gaining acceptance or recognition within mainstream medicine? Or is this still kind of a fringe thing that currently has no scientific support or merit? Several articles quoted a "Harvard Nurses Study" from the 90's.

Any thoughts?
