Re: abnormal papsmear after loop and colonoscopyFrom: Maria (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 22 Aug 2000 21:52:29 -0500 (CDT)
Dear Dr. Milkos: My sister a beautiful 31 year old dentist with no kids was diagnosed with cervical cancer almost 2 years ago. Very odd, not at risk and always had normal pap smears. Anyway, she just had a papsmear almost 2 years later after a cone and loop we are all very concerned. I am afraid of the disease spreading. She has been diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis could this have altered the smear? The smear came back glandular cells of undetermined significance. Her doc wants to re-do smear in 8 weeks. What are chances of subsequent normal smear? or cancer smear and if cancer is a hysterectomy only option? Dr. I would really appreciate any thoughts you may have on the issue. Thank you in advance.
