Safety of Estrostep for women over 35 and overweightFrom: Candace (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 9 Aug 2000 17:12:31 -0500 (CDT)
I am 37 years old and am having very heavy periods with severe cramps and am passing large clots. I saw my gyn and though I am not anemic she said the flow as I described it was heavy. We discussed taking birth control pills. I was given 2 sample months of Estrostep FE. I realize there are side effects, both serious (blood clots, gall bladder disease, etc) and minor (nausea, headaches, etc). I need relief from my menstrual problems but am concerned about taking Estrostep due to the side effects. The literature mentions a significant increase in risk of blood clots in women over 35. Can you offer any advice? I am also overweight but my blood pressure is normal. Background: I have IBS and MVP and currently take Serzone, Corgard and Ativan as needed.
