Ovarian CystFrom: Toni (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 7 Aug 2000 11:20:00 -0500 (CDT)
I've had an ovarian cyst for 1 1/2 years on my left ovary. The most recent ultra sound indicates it measures 7.1 x 4.9 x 5.3 cm, with flow documented within one of the septums. The first ultra sound done 3/99 indicates it is a complex cyst demostrating partially thickened septations with associated calcification & possible nodulation in the wall of the cyst. The size then was 6.7 x 6 x 4.2 cm. I've been reading everything I can on the subject and have found information suggesting that progestrone or birth control pills have been used to shrink cysts. My gynocologist has placed me on natural progesterone at my request and the surgeon she sent me to said I should have it removed, but because it did not grow significantly it has a low percentage of being cancerous. I want to avoid having surgery, if I can shrink this cyst with the progesterone or birth control pills. I'm looking for more concrete evidence that I'm not just prolonging this process and will end up with surgery anyway. Please let me know if progesterone or birth control pills have sucessfully reduced cysts and within what type of time frame I can expect it to take for a cyst of this size. Greatly Appreciated! Toni
