Recurrent Vulvar IrritationFrom: AMD (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 3 Aug 2000 11:12:43 -0500 (CDT)
I have had a problem with some sort of recurrent problem in my genital area. Seems like most the skin from the pubic hair line to the vagina is itchy and sore, particularly in the crease between the labia. I have a thin, whitish discharge. If I look with a mirror, I can see small "splits" in the skin, especially in the crease of the labia. The pain is particularly bad at these splits and along veins that are prominent. There is almost always a split at the very front of the crease, right by the pubic hair line. It does seem to improve with topical applications of Mycolog, but it is always temporary. It definitely seems to be aggravated by sex, and is obviously detrimental to my sex life. This has been going on for years, ever since the birth of my first child. I've stopped using dryer sheets to avoid any allergenic response to that. I only use a mild soap for "feminine cleansing". I wear cotton underwear and loose fitting clothes. The discharge seems to be irritating, but panty liners drive me nuts, and I don't want to wear a tampon all the time. When I've gone in, nothing has shown up on the wet mount. I'm at a loss and incredibly frustrated. Any ideas what may be going on here? What directions should I pursue with my gyn? AndreaD
