Question????From: curious (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 31 Jul 2000 18:41:45 -0500 (CDT)
with a previous pregnancy that ended in loss i was told after a pelvic exam that i couldn't have a baby over 7 lbs because it wouldn't fit, my bones were too close together, that worried me, especially since im a diabetic, and i thought i would have a fairly large baby. My next pregnancy the doctor never mentioned this problem to me, it was a different doctor, and i never mentioned it either. My water broke 4 weeks early, they induced me that same day, i was in labor for 26 hours, the nurse had me push some, and then she said there is no way this baby is going to fit, so she called the doctor, then he finally agreed to a csection. I thought i was having a huge baby, but he weighed 6.11. My sister was told the same thing, except she gave birth to her son, he weighed over 8lbs, but she had to be cut drastically, and was in alot of pain for a long time. My mom had to have csections for anything over 7 lbs, which was 2 out of us 5. I know this is heriditary, but is there some way the doctors can actually tell what will fit and what actually wont? Through xray or something. And it says on my chart my csection was performed because of failure to progress, i only dilated to 9, im worried about my next pregnancy, whenever there is one, if they'll do a planned csection or if there is a possible way for me to have a Vaginal delivery. I go to the GYN in a couple of weeks, and i was wondering if i should bring it up. Also when i was in labor i got an epidural at 4 centimeters, and it didn't work. I still felt excruciating pain, they checked it several times and said it was properly placed, so what causes it not to work, and is there a high chance that this could happen again? I don't ever want natural childbirth again.. Not for 26 hours anyways. Thanx!!!
