Hemoperitoneum after hysterectomyFrom: Sheila (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 30 Jul 2000 16:06:07 -0500 (CDT)
I had a LAVH last Tuesday which went well except for internal bleeding after it was over. The doc told me it was a very rare complication and I believe it was called peritoneal hemoperitoneum (blood filling in the cavity in your abodmen from a slow blood leak). I've searched for any information on this that I can find, but there doesn't seem to be anything out there. My blood count was down to 6 when a transfusion was ordered and my counts did go up to 9.5 when I was released from the hospital on Saturday so they believed the bleeding had stopped and clotted. I have a huge purple bruise on my back and side from it. My main concern is about it starting up again or about having to go back to surgery to have it found. Is there anyplace where I can find more information on this concerning the dangers, or is anyone here familiar with what I'm talking about? I've asked my doc but things still aren't clear...quite honestly I'm scared of what could happen with it and I need more information. Thank you, Sheila
