Possible Recurrance of LMP Ovarian tumorFrom: MSF (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 14 Jul 2000 21:41:53 -0500 (CDT)
In December of 1999, I was diagnosed with a very large ovarian tumor on my right ovary, which upon surgical removal was diagnosed as a Low Malignant Potential tumor. Because of my age (29), the fact that there did not appear to be any spreading to the lymph nodes or other areas, and my wishes surrounding fertility (I currently have no children), my doctor removed the right ovary, but left everything else intact. Over the past 12 weeks, we have been monitoring a 2 cm abnormality by TVG ultrasound. Hormone treatment has not caused a change in either the existance or size of the growth. Because of characteristics of the growth identified on the ultrasound (divisions or something like that...?) my doctor has recommended surgery to examine and remove the growth and possibly the ovary if warranted. My questions is mainly this: What is the risk level if I wait to have this procedure (given my previous history). Even if it is another LMP tumor, aren't they very slow growing, less likely to spread, and less health threatening? Not to sound flippant, but I have a great deal going on in my life including a major job change and a pending move to another state. Essentially, I'm just wondering if I am risking serious damage to my health by going ahead with my plans to move and then waiting to get settled and for my insurance to kick in before I have this treated. Thank you for your help. MSF
