Sue,

I hope that you don't mind my answering you again while you wait to hear from the drs on this matter. Also please don't apologize for feeling that you need to ask these questions again.

Did you also check the archives of the forum by typing in the word "vulvodynia" to see if the responses that the drs left to other posts from the past that have talked about vulvodynia to see if that is of some help?

Please just remember that with any surgery there is a risk, and one of the risks of vulvar surgery is going to be vulvodynia especially for those who have had the surgery done with a laser. Please make sure that you ask your dr a lot of questions about the procedure. That's the one thing that I wish that I would have done before I had the surgery.

As far as I know the dr that did my surgery didn't use a laser when he cut that skin away, only thing that I do know is that I ended up with vulvodynia. Other ladies that I have met have ended up with vulvodynia as a result of other surgical procedures and in childbirth.

If you check the website for the Vulvar Pain Foundation which is:

http://www.vulvarpainfoundation.org and click on the

section that says "causes and treatments for vulvodynia" or something to that extent and that too should answer some of the questions that you have.

Also check out the FAQ section of http://www.vulvodynia.com. The FAQ section of that site is also a very good source of information.

Also if you look in the archives of this forum I think that the issues of sensation were addressed already. If you would like to meet with other ladies besides myself who have vulvodynia and have lost sensation that can lead to not being able to have sex or ask any other questions please let me know and I will be glad to tell you where you can write to for more personal experiences in addition to my own.

Even though I do understand your concern about how having that skin be as it is unsightly, have you asked your own dr (in addition to here) what he thinks about you having the surgery?

I think that if you read some of the other posts on vulvodynia that are listed in the archives in addition to whatever the drs are able to tell you today that it will help answer some of your questions.

As I told you before I'll be supporting whatever decision that you make for yourself as to whether you have the surgery or not, but of course if you still have your doubts about the surgery even after talking to your dr then do as the other expression says, "If in doubt cut it out."

I wish you all of the best, and if you do have any questions about recovery from the procedure then please know that I'm available for you and I will do my best to answer the questions that you have.

I hope that this is of some help to you, and please know that I'm available if you have any other questions in addition to the ones that were already asked.

Take care,

Kristy :)
