I was trained to do collagen injections in 1993-4 I don't remember the exact date but I will tell you the injection is not as successful as docs are lead to believe. Personally I rarely perform a contigen injection now....The two best operations in the literature for activity related incontinence are: Burch urethropexy and the sling operations. These operations are approximately 85% curative 5-10 years after surgery. Contigen injections are often quoted to be 50-80% successful. Note the terminology -----success is not cure!!!!!!!!! Success usually means sometype of improvement. Personally---I believe that Contigen or collagen injections is a nice tool for the surgeons tool chest, however I feel the cure rate of injections at one year probably fall around 10-20%. Have you had previous surgery other than contigen injections??? If you have not a sling or a Burch might be appropriate...If you have had a previous bladder neck suspension...I have found the TVT sling to be an outstanding operation.
