Recently had first miscarriage, DR hasn't given much advice, what are signs of infection? From: Annette (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 8 Jul 2000 08:20:14 -0500 (CDT)
I am 26 with two previously uneventful pregnancies/births. I miscarried on Monday 7/3 at approx 11 wks LMP but only 6.5 wks gestational size by u/s showing a deformed empty sac (6/29), (started light bleeding on 7/1, passed tissue on 7/3). I had quantitative HCG on 7/300 and 7/500. The DR said to repeat the HCG on Monday morning 7/10 prior to my appointment at 2:15. I am concerned about the possibility of infection and the signs of one. I am not running a "fever" but I have noticed a *slightly* foul odor from the bleeding; however I don't know what is normal. The flow has been period-like since late Monday night/Tuesday morning with only very small occasional clots and mild menstrual cramping. It is still bright to darkish red. I've been very careful, washing my hands before and after changing pads, changing pads frequently (2-4 hrs) even if they are barely tinged. This whole experience has been new to me and the DR has not really offered me any information on what to expect other than that if I bleed "heavy" to go to the ER. Any information, even general, would be appreciated. Thank you, Annette
