celexa, breastfeedingFrom: m. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 6 Jul 2000 14:11:37 -0500 (CDT)
My baby is 9.5 months old. I have had depression since her birth. I am finally (after much encouragement) taking medication (celexa) for my depression. My doctor said it was one of the safest new drugs available. I don't want to stop breastfeeding. ( I nurse about 3-4 times a day) But I worry about this drug in my breast milk. I told my doctor that I would stop nursing, but when I got home and my baby wanted to nurse, How can I say NO? Do I have to? Any stories about this drug and breastfeeding? I take 1 20mg every morning (today was my second morning) I am only nursing baby in the evening and through the night. I wait about 9-10 hours after I have taken the drug before I nurse her. Is this necessary??
