Kelly, There are several things that can affect an epidurals efficiency or lack thereof. The dosage of medication can affect different individuals differently. The position one assume in labor can affect the region of block. Finally, an individual's anantomy can affect the block. The epidural counts on working on the nerve roots as they exit the spinal cord. If a persons anatomy is such that the medication doesn't quite get to a particular nerve root, then there will be no pain relief or maybe a partial block. This partial affect could explain the burning rather than the frank pain of labor... Lynn
