I'm sorry to say, but if the US showed an 8week + fetus without a heartbeat, that diagnoses an impending miscarriage. If the fetal size is that large, there should be a visible heartbeat. It is difficult to miscarry for any pregnancy, but the fear can be worse if it is your first pregnancy. In the vast majority of cases, this will not happen again. Also, it is very unlikely that you did anything that caused this to happen. You do need to check in with your doc to discuss further medical care. Good luck, and if you have further questions, write in again.

>My LMT was 4/24/00 and I also had an emergency ultrasound on 6/6/00 due to light spotting without cramps or other indications of a miscarriage. The doctor did not find the FHR and diagnosis a blighted ovum. My OB/GYN wanted to monitor my hCG level to ruleout an ectopic pregnancy. My levels continued to increase at a normal rate and I recommended another ultrasound a week later by a reputable perinatal specialist. He had the same conclusion, blighted ovum but found it strange that my levels continued to increase and the sac had doubled in size. He suggested I wait for two weeks and repeat the proceedure but advised me that he did not expect different results. I waited and my OB/GYN called me to monitor my blood work. I am at 8 weeks, 4 days now. My hCG results were indiciate of a normal pregnancy and again, I was instructed to obtain another ultrasound. I requested the same specialist that had performed the second ultrasound and he confirmed that there was no fetus in the sac even though I continued to have increased hCG and daily morning sickness. I was even showing at 9 weeks. The doctors could not explain why I had a seemingly normal pregnancy without a fetus. My D&C was performed 1 day after 9 weeks. It has been a difficult process for me. I hope things turn out differently for you.
