Re: Possible UTI or just contamination from vaginal contents? From: Robin (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 30 Jun 2000 14:06:32 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Becky, Sounds like you really need to go see a Dr. If the amount of blood is increasing, you really should. I think it was Dr. Braun that said it could be blood in the discharge is contaminating the urine specimen (or something to that effect). One thing that my Dr. always does with me is a straight cath specimen, to make sure that we aren't getting contamination from the vagina. I've had a lot of clean catch specimens show bacteria, but when a cathed specimen was obtained, it was clear. So, before you do this yourself, call your Dr. and talk with him/her. If you are experiencing symptoms, and it can't wait, go to the ER. I haven't had the procedure that you did, but I would assume part of the reason they say no intercourse for x number of days is to decrease the risk of infection. I don't think you should continue to do the self checks anymore. As the great Dr. Marchbein says...TTSAD...time to see a Dr. Good luck.
