Only one ovary removed, but now having horomonal symptoms? From: Ann (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 26 Jun 2000 22:32:42 -0500 (CDT)
I had my right ovary removed (endo) with a laparotomy on June 14. Everything went great, I got to go home the next day. I've been recovering very well since, and am off pain meds completely. I'm 25. Since the surgery, I've been having what I would describe as hot flashes. I get really hot, sweat but I'm not running a fever. My husband feels my forehead and says I'm cold and clammy. I've also been having periods of irrational depression and irritablity that come up quickly and leave quickly. It's not an emotional problem. My mom says this sound like her when she started menopause. My doctor visualized my left ovary and said it was fine. I had an ultrasound in Dec 1999, left ovary was fine then. I take Ortho/Novum 1/50 back to back. When you have one ovary removed, do you go through a period of adjustment hormonally? Do levels drop to a level where symptoms start? Do I need to ask my doctor for a hormone level test on my recheck visit? Thankfully, other than these symptoms I'm doing great. My pre-surgery pain is gone. Thanks for any replies.
