More ? on chlamydia

So just how long can chlamydia lay dormant? Do you routinely test all patients, even those in long-term, mutually monogamous relationships? I've been married 8 years -- could one of us still contract chlamydia due to pre-marital "adventures"?

I think the only time I've ever been tested for STD's was during pregnancy. If there's been no "outsiders" since then, is it safe to assume that neither of us have chlamydia? Or is this something that should be checked at every checkup?

Thanks, Andrea
