Laproscopic Surgery/////Scared!!!!From: Carma (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 8 Jun 2000 18:19:21 -0500 (CDT)
How dangerous is Laprosopic surgery? I am 27 years old, and 16 small cysts were discovered on my ovaries. I have had abdominal pain and cramping I thought related to gas for about 5 years, but never sought a Dr. out for it. My right ovary has been causing me pain (very different type of pain) for over 6 months with no let up and no patterns. Most recently I started bleeding and cramping after intercourse. I have been on ortho cept for almost 10 years now and I thought normal cysts were caused by ovulation. (which I am not supposed to be doing). I spoke with my OBGYN and she did an ultrasound (that found the small cysts, 8 on each ovary) Also, my right ovary is 5-6 cm in diameter verses my left at 3. She also ordered a CA-125 test ( as I have a very strong history of Ovarian Cancer in my family) The CA-125 has not come back, however she indicated that she would like to do Laproscopic Surgery if the number is high. Also she sent me to a gastroenterologist and wants me to be checked for IBS. She said that if that medication did not work they want to do the surgery. I am very confused and scared. Please any advice you can give me would be great.
