Swollen Stomach after Multiple SurgeriesFrom: Nita (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 31 May 2000 20:58:16 -0500 (CDT)
Events of 1999: January = Entered hospital with high fever and pain lower left stomach - diagnosed diverticultis, treated and released after one week. February = Happened again only this time fever high and extreme pain; had immediate surgery; surgeon found bad left ovary and removed; within 3 days of post op fever returned and pain became unbearable - another emergency surgery resulting in colostomy; diagnosed peritonitis; remained in hospital one month. May = Colostomy reversal; sucessful; August = Pain in lower right stomach - had surgerical removal of right ovary and scar tissue removal. In between surgeries I had to heal from the inside out without stitches. I had my uterus removed 10 years ago due to severe prolapse. My question: To say the least 1999 was a horific year for me. I now take blood pressure medication and premarin. My stomach looks like I am 7 months pregnant. I am petite and weight about 120 lbs. I am 46 years old. My stomach sticks out like a sore thumb and my clothes don't fit me. I feel depressed and ugly. I have lower back pain and occasional pain that shoots across my stomach. My legs ache. I can not return to the surgeon because my insurance has changed and he no longer participates. My regular doctor believes it is constipation but I've tried everything. Can anyone help me with why I am so swollen? Do I have no stomach muscle left? Will it ever go away? I am very greatful to be alive as I was told that I was near death in 1999. I am a mother of 3 sons (one is in the Army; one a sucessful college student and one a sophomore in high school). I've done my time and really don't enjoy looking and feeling pregnant again. Hope there is someone out there with some useful suggestions. Many, many thanks!
