The vaginitis thing can be very tricky. Much too often, patients symptoms, usually itching or pruritis, are blamed on either bacterial vaginitis or yeast. My rule of thumb is to treat a patient once based on the basic exam (visual exam, wet prep and KOH micro exam). If the patient recurs again, then I do cultures. If the cultures do not reveal a bacteria, etc, and the patient continues to have recurrences, I think a vulvar biopsy is indicated. The reason being that many of the "recurrent vaginitities" are actually something else affecting the vulva and vaginal introitus, causing the symptoms. The fact that you have had cervical dysplasia twice tends to add fuel to this premise. Much of the cervical dysplasia we see today is caused by a virus (human papilloma virus). This virus can also infect and affect the vulva and vagina, causing irritative symptoms. If it is not looked for in a specific fashion or by biopsy, it is easily missed. The answer to you gardnarella question is that I am not aware of a "natural" cure for this... Lynn
