Yeast infection

I think I may have a yeast infection (I'm very itchy and have a lot of thick, clumpy, sticky discharge). This isn't something I really want to ask a doctor about. Is it aright to just try one of the over the counter treatments? The only infection I know I've had is ureaplasma(sp?), and that was several months ago.

I am going to see my RE at the end of the week for other reasons. I'd rather not bring this to his attention if it's not necessary. What do you think?

Thanks for any help offered, Kris
