hysterectomy--internal bleeding, fluid on the lungs-now 4 weeks later persistent pain in chest and backFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 23 May 2000 07:31:54 -0500 (CDT)
I had a TAH 4 weeks ago. In the day following surgeryMy hgb dropped from 140 to 65 as a result of internal bleeding. I was given 4 units of blood then on day 3I developed difficulty breathing and was given ventolin and oxygen for 3 days following a lung scan on day 4 it was determined I had fluid on the lungs. I was given a diuretic? to deal with that. I then developed a temp and was placed on IV antibiotics On day 8 I was discharged and given cipro for a week. I was very weak over the next two weeks and spent a lot of time in bed. Just when I thought I turned the corner I developed a pain in my right chest which extended to my back, almost like I cracked my rib. I spent a day at the emergency and went through various tests to rule out a lung or other blood clot then was discharged home and told that by process of elimination I must have an inflammation in my chest wall, possibly viral in nature. That was 6 days ago. I have taken anti inflammatories since. I still am in extreme pain which comes on in spasms which extend from my right chest to my back. If I laugh, breathe deeply, or get to tired the spasms come on. Is there anything I should be doing in further follow up? If not how long should I expect this to last? I am still unable to do much.
