There are 2 things you may be referring to -- one is a placental abruption, which is separation of hte placenta from hte uterine wall. If the area of separation is extensive, the baby cannot receive proper oxygen and nutrients and a miscarrige may result. Another potential problem is restricted growth and preterm delivery. The second condition is amniotic band syndrome -- basically, bands of tissue stretch across portions of the amniotic cavity in which the baby is floating. Sometimes these band can trap an extremity causing deformity or amputation. There are no "cures" for either condition. If you have a placental abruption you will be asked to take it easy. If you have been smoking or using any street drugs (especially cocaine) that must be stopped immediately. If you have high blood pressure, another possible cause, that will need to be controlled. You should speak to your perinatologist (specialist in high risk ob) to ask questions aobut exactly what is going on with you and what the prognosis is. Good luck
