The echogenic mass is usually the calcium found within the teratoma.

Since they are rarely malignant and usually grow very slowly, some patients may choose to have them watched sonographically. this may work for most women but some may become too concerned and the small chance of malignancy makes this somewhat risky but everyone has the right to refuse treatment.
