Next steps to distinguish between a uterine fibroid or cervical carcinomaFrom: Kay (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 7 May 2000 14:40:09 -0500 (CDT)
Over the past two weeks, I have had an ultra sound and MRI because of extremely heavy post menopausal bleeding. I am 56 years old and am not on hormones. The impressions are: 1. 2cm round mass in the anterior cervix which is surrounded by normal cervical tissue. This may represent a uterine fibroid or cervical carcinoma. If this does represent cervical carcinoma, there is no evidence of spread into adjacent structures or metastatic disease. The endomerial stripe is mildly thickened for a post-menopausal woman not on hormone replacements. This is possibly due to the mass occluding the endocervical canal. This mass corresponds to the ultrasound fudning. 2. 1.5 cm fibroid in the posterior uterine fundus. I would expect that treatment will depend on whether this is a fibroid or cervical carcinoma. What are my options? I will be seeing my ob-gyn, hopefully within the next week. I would like to be somewhat knowledgeable in discussing the options I have. Thanks!
