Missy I do not believe there are ACOG guidelines this specific for anemia. Each healthcare provider has his own 'cutoffs' for hct levels before treatment begins. There are several irons that I use- Ferrosequels(has a stool softener), SlowFe (slower absorption often helps stomach upset), Vitron C(iron + Vit C, chewable)-if you can find it. Taking your iron with meal and or with vitamin C can help some of the side effects. Also, do not take too much at one time. It will cause mega side effects and you will not absorb as much, ie less effective. Good Luck
