Re: indomitriosisFor more information on symptoms and treatment of endometriosis visit www.EndometriosisZONE.org. From: Stacey (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 25 Apr 2000 22:25:53 -0500 (CDT)
Jason, There are several women on this and other forums who have endometriosis and have had GnRH agonists(gonadotropin-relesing hormones, the six-month therapy that you mentioned.) The therapy works in two steps, in the first, it stimulates the ovaries to produce more estrogen (which can actually worsen endo symtoms for a little while) and then the over-loaded ovaries "shut down" causing the estrogen level to drop rapidly. That is when the "false menopause" occurs. I'm 19-years-old and this is only my third day on Lupron therapy, a GnRH therapy that is rather controversial right now because of side effects. To get an idea of what side effects there are in this type of therapy, go to http://www.lupron.com and because there are always two sides to every story go to http://www.lupronvictims.com. Also do searches on Synarel and Zoladex. Good luck to you. Do your reserch and talk to her doctor. Make sure that she makes the decision that is right for her. She may also want to contact the Endometriosis Association, because other options are available to her. Check out books on Endo at your local library, it may help. Well....that's my unsolicited advice!!!! Hope that she feels much better soon!!!
