Abnormal PapFrom: Pat (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 22 Apr 2000 21:41:11 -0500 (CDT)
A very good friend of mine recently had her pap come back "irregular". She is 50 (I think, or at least within 2 years +/-), anyway this is the first time this has occured. Her doctor did another type of test yesterday, where they used two types of dyes to try to determine what was going on. He told her he "wasn't able to see what he was looking for" and has now scheduled her for a biopsy next week. He told her since this last test didn't work, "it" was coming from "higher up". The only info he gave her about this biopsy is that it is out-patient, they will take a cone-shaped sample from her cervix and she should plan to take a week off work. Can anyone give me some insight into what the possiblities are and what the doctor is looking for? Is this normal procedure? Is she looking at something major (ie. cancer)? If anyone can please give me some answers I will be extremely grateful. She is very trusting in her doctor but he hasn't given her many details and she (and I) are worried. Thank You!!!!
